How to make black bean chili

This black bean chili is so quick and easy to make. It takes two minutes to prep and only 30 to cook!

Prep the chili ingredients

The only things you need to prep in the recipe are the beans and onion. First, rinse and drain the black beans and set them aside for later. Then halve and dice one-half of the onion. That’s it. You can also take this time to measure out all of the spices, that’s what I do.

Cooking the black bean chili

Grab a medium pot and heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Once heated, add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, you just want the onion to soften.

Next, add the ground beef to the pot and cook with the onions for about 5 minutes, making sure to break the meat up. The beef may not be cooked all the way after 5 minutes but it will finish cooking in the next step.

Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot, mix, and cook for another 15-20 minutes. This will give the beef time to finish cooking and time for the flavors to meld together.

Serve and top with your toppings of choice! I like cheddar cheese and chives.
