5 Ways To Be Positive

Positivity; We all want it, but some of us have a harder time finding it. I’d like to think that I’ve been a pretty positive person for the majority of my life, but I’ve definitely had my “dark cloud” phase. If you struggle to find it in your life, I hope this post helps you and you learn how to be positive!

Eliminate Negativity

It sounds silly and extremely obvious, I know. Before you can really focus on being positive, you have to figure out what is bring you negativity and get rid of it. Here are some things that you can change:

Your surroundings

Who do you surround yourself with? Are they supportive? Kind? Are they positive? If not, you need to think about what those people really bring to your life. Are they always negative? If so, you might want to think about distancing yourself from them. Negativity breeds negativity! Surround yourself with positive people! People who inspire you and are kind.

Stop complaining and making excuses

I used to do nothing but complain and make excuses for why I was unhappy. Guess what, it didn’t make me any happier! Listen, I get it. When you’re having a rough time, it feels good to let it out; it’s called venting. There is a big difference between venting and complaining though. Venting is a one-time thing; You let it all out and then it’s over. Complaining is when you’re constantly speaking negatively. Here’s a thought, all the energy you use up complaining could be better used to actually fixing your problem. Also, if someone is trying to help you and you reply with “Yeah, but…” Stop it. You’re the problem. You’re holding yourself back at this point.

Log off

This is so important! When I have days where staying positive seems impossible, I have a ‘No Phone Day.’ I have one day where I turn my phone off; No texts, no phone calls, and definitely no social media! It’s insane how much technology affects us emotionally, with everyone’s highlight reels and the comparisons. That’s why it’s important to log off every now and then. Instead of scrolling through social media, I like to go to the gym, check off my to-do list, work on creative projects, read a book, maybe even do a little meditation. By the end of the day, I feel like a new woman!

Adding in positivity

Change the way you think

If your first thought was “yeah, but I can’t just change that.” Go back and reread what I wrote about making excuses, you excuse monster! This sounds hard, but I promise it’s not. Do you ever have those days where something frustrates you and ruins your day? I think we all have. Here’s the trick to not letting it take over your whole day: Silver Linings. With all the bad, comes the good! I guess that’s what they mean by yin and yang. There’s a silver lining to every situation; you just have to find it. Also, not everything is so serious. Learn to laugh things off! Laughing makes you smile, and smiling makes you happy. It’s science! Sometimes you just have to fake it till’ you make it.

Listen to yourself

This goes with what I said above about changing the way you think, be aware of how you interact with others. Read through your texts and see how many times you’re negative. How many Snapchats are you sending about something annoying that happened? You get what you put out into the world. If you’re constantly giving out negativity, sorry to tell ya, but that’s what the universe will give back to you! Start using gratitude and don’t give your energy to the negative stuff.

Add bits of positivity to your day

It all starts when you wake up! I like to wake up 30 minutes before I have to get out of bed. I love to put music on and set my intentions for the day. I’ll also tell myself a positive affirmation like, “Today is going to be a good day.” or, “You’re going to be super productive today.” Throughout the day, when I feel like I need a break, sometimes ill listen to a podcast, look at things that inspire me, or take a walk (provided that the weather is nice). At the end of my day, I like to write in my Happiness Planner. It makes me sit and think about everything I’ve accomplished that day, the good things that happened, and what I’m grateful for.

I hope this helps you bring more positivity into your life. They always say “What you put out there is what you receive.” So spread that positivity as much as you can! Check out my post on beating the winter blues if you want more ways to feel happy.
