Within the past year, working from home has grown significantly! Now more than ever, people and companies are opting for the work at home lifestyle. While working from home sounds great, it can often be challenging to get into work mode and stay there for the next eight hours. I mean, everything is on zoom and you can wear sweats, right? Your TV is right there and who said you HAD to get out of bed? If you’re struggling to keep a schedule and stay productive while working from home, this post is for you!

Create a schedule

Part of going to an office is having a schedule. When you start working from home, that structure is taken away. That’s why it’s so important that you create your own structure. Start by making your own schedule! The way I stay on schedule is by using the Fabulous App. I create my own schedule and they remind me to get going!

Since you don’t have the commute time anymore, will you give yourself more time to sleep? Or will you use that time to cook a nice breakfast for yourself? Here are some important steps not to miss out on.

Create a solid morning routine

It might be tempting to wait until the last minute to roll out of bed, but creating a solid morning routine will set your day up for success. A few things I like to make sure I do in the morning is:

  • Hop in the shower to wake me up
  • Wash my face/ brush my teeth
  • Get dressed! Even if it’s just from the waist up! No one on zoom will know you’re in pj’s. Plus, comfort is key too, right? But the action of getting dressed will get your mind in work mode.

Make sure you’re taking breaks

When we’re at the office we don’t forget about taking breaks. We’re counting down the minutes until it’s break time. We’re hungry, a coworker is getting on your nerves, and your work pants are giving you a wedgie. But when you’re chilling at home in your sweats, alone, with food right there, it can be easy to bypass the break times because you can now multitask. Here are some ways to spend your break:

  • Eat
  • Meditate
  • Go for a nice walk
  • Watch one of your shows (if time allows for it)
  • Take a nap! Why not? Your bed is right there and rest is important. Just don’t forget to set an alarm!

Create a home office space

Without an actual office to go to, you’re going to need a dedicated space in your home. While not everyone has a spare room, it’s important to find a spot, preferably away from distractions to work in.

Plan a week ahead

If you use the google calendar with your office, I’m sure you’ve already got this part down. If you have to create your own schedule, try to plan the week out in advance! Get a calendar and write down deadlines, times, meetings, and scheduled breaks!

Weed out distractions

I know turning on the Tv is tempting, but if you’re someone who gets distracted easily, it’s probably not a good idea. Instead:

  • Work with the Tv off
  • Turn on some music. Classical and instrumental music are great for keeping focused.
  • Keep your phone in another room. You don’t need to be checking your social media or texting your friends all day! That’s why you set break times.
  • If you’re feeling a little fidgety and can’t focus, open a window. The fresh air will help a lot!
