This year has been a crazy one! We’ve been socially distancing, away from friends and family for the majority of the year. With 2021 on the way, I’m sure you’re wondering how you can make this New Year’s Eve a memorable one while also staying safe at home. So with that said, I’ve compiled some ways to celebrate the New Year at home! Get ready to have a great New Year’s Eve!

How to celebrate the New Year at home

Get Dressed

I know many of you are thinking “why get dressed up if I’m at home?” Because it’s fun, that’s why! Don’t you have an outfit you’ve been dying to wear but nowhere to wear it to? This is your chance! Plus, who doesn’t want a good selfie?

On the other hand, you can also take this night to get hella cozy! Put on your favourite pj’s or sweats. Perhaps even a onesie?!

Snacks & Drinks

What’s one of the best parts of a party? The food of course! Plan a little menu of your favorite appetizers and snacks! If you’re looking for something easy, pop over to the grocery store and pick up a frozen variety pack! All you have to do is heat them up in the oven!

As for drinks, pop that champagne at home! Get yourself a fancy glass and cheers with your household! If you’re sober or not a drinker but would love to have something fancy of your own to drink, check out one of my favourite companies No & Low. They sell a variety of non-alcoholic drinks! The best part is that they actually taste good AND create drinks with complex flavours. They tend to ship really fast within the US too! Click here to check them out!

Activities

Since we’re not going to the bars or parties, I’ve come up with a few fun ways to ring in the new year!

Plan a video chat party!

Gather a bunch of loved ones and pop into a video chat! One thing we’re all missing this year are our favourite people, but how lucky are we to live in a time where we can still see and speak to them?

Have a game night

Game nights are perfect for nights in! Gather up your family members and whip out your favourite board games. Do you live alone? No problem! Have a game night with your friends online and video chat!

Movie night

This is another great way to spend your night! You can watch movies alone, with your household, or with your friends through Netflix Party!

Intention setting

This is perfect for people who have big dreams! 2020 has taught us that life is short, so don’t be afraid to dream big! Put those dreams of yours out into the universe. This has been one of my favourite ways to spend my New Year’s Eve for the past three years.

  • Watch inspiring documentaries to get you excited for everything next year will have to offer.
  • Do some meditation to get clear about what you want to achieve this year.
  • Write it down! The best way to achieve your goals is to write them down. Don’t just write down what you want to achieve, but also HOW you plan on doing it. What are the steps you need to take? Be as specific as possible!
  • Create a vision board. This can be done by yourself, or together with friends on video chat! All you need is a poster board, magazine clippings, and glue! Why create a vision board? While writing down your goals is a great start, having something hanging on your wall as a reminder will just boost your efforts in making things happen.
  • Fill out a journal. I’m obsessed with my Happiness Planner and I make sure to fill the beginning of it out every New Year’s Eve!

Have a spa night

If you’re at home, you might as well get as comfortable as possible! This one is great for those of you who live alone too. Here are some essentials for a great spa night:

  • A nice candle
  • A bubble bath
  • Spa music
  • A face masks of some sort
  • A face roller
  • Cucumber water
  • Nail polish

A spa night will leave you feeling relaxed, moisturized, hydrated, and glowy. Who doesn’t want to start the new year feeling that way? This is also great to pair up with the intention-setting section!

Not only do I wish you a Happy New Year, but that you found this post helpful! As I said, this year has been like no other! I hope you found some new ways to celebrate the new year at home and make it a night just as exciting as any other year!
